Wolf Ridge Midslope Rest

(Sitting: Zack, Jeff, Kendall, Lydia, Rachelle, Standing: Britta)

Here is most everyone. Believe it or not we're all related, well kinda, at least related to someone in this picture! It's hard to explain without drawing a massive family tree. This is the last photo of our last snowboarding trip of the Winter. In a way I wish we were going snowboarding again this weekend but alas it's probably better we rest up for our upcoming March adventures.

Wolf Ridge Create Your Own Caption

(Lydia & Kendall)

This photo is just begging for a creative/humorous caption. However, I cannot think of any!! What was really happening: Lydia was having trouble trying to stop and Kendall was watching her.

Wolf Ridge Slow Jump

The goal of this photo was to catch Zack in mid air during his jump. However, due to the nature of my camera and even though I pushed the button before he went airborne, it was still too slow. Instead, you get to see a lovely photo of him landing, staying upright, and a spray of snow. Skateboarding skills have translated quite nicely for Zack to snowboarding.

Wolf Ridge Ski Lift II

(Kendall , Zack, & Mark)
The guys checking out and taking care of snowboard issues while riding on the lift without the safety bar down! =O I like the safety bar down, it makes me feel, well, safe! I think the guys on the lift behind them thought I was taking a picture of them.

Wolf Ridge Ski Lift

(Kendall and I)

For the last time this Winter, Kendall and I went snowboarding. I wanted to try to go more often this Winter so I would hopefully improve. I am usually the slowest and most incompetent of the groups we go with so it would be nice if everyone didn't have to wait for me besides being more fun. I think I somewhat accomplished that this Winter as we were able to go to 4 different locales (3 of which we had never been to before) and I learned how to properly turn instead of doing it the easier but less efficient not to mention improper way.

Saturday, we went to Wolf Ridge in Mars Hill, NC (near Asheville) with a couple of our friends then met up with several of Kendall's cousins. The weather was awesome (high near 50 & sunshine) and the slopes had decent snow but did get icier later in the day due to it being so warm.

Cupcakes, Fruit Salad, Melting Pots, & Cheesecake

I know I have been doing a terrible job this past week or so updating this blog. I don't really have any new photos to share and nothing too exciting has been happening. I ought to have been taking pictures of the things I cook, this past week seems to have involved a lot of food related events. Saturday: I spent about 3 hours making cupcakes for Kendall for Valentine's. Monday: We had a party at work for my boss's 50th Birthday so I made a fruit salad with vanilla pudding. Tuesday: Kendall took me out for my surprise Valentine's dinner. We wanted to avoid the crowds so waited a few days. I knew we were going but not where. The where turned out to be The Melting Pot. I have wanted to go there ever since I lived in Atlanta so several years later I finally made it and absolutely loved it! They have an innovative and unique way to serve food. Thursday: Another one of my coworkers had a birthday so I made a cheesecake for everyone. Yum! This is the third cheesecake I've ever made but the first one where I actually ate a slice and it was good! Anyway, at least this is an update. This weekend we are going snowboarding for the last time this season most likely so maybe I'll have photos to put up next week.

Backyard Tree Climbing

The weather this past week has been quite warm for our area (high 60s). We ventured outside to our dogs usual territory and checked out our backyard. Kendall had to check out the view as well and climbed our Maple Tree.

Note: Sorry about the black smudges in the corners. My camera is dying. Pictures turn out ok but the shutters don't always stay open properly. Time for a new camera or time for me to start practicing with Kendall's SLR.

Happy Valentine's Day!

For Valentine's Day, I made Kendall a homemade box of chocolates! Unfortunately, I did not have a heart shaped box so they got placed in a red round silicone baking dish. I made everything you see. There are 16 chocolate fudge mini cupcakes with milk chocolate frosting. Toppings include red and white sugar sprinkles, Hershey Kisses, M&M's, and chocolate covered marshmallows. If you have seen the spaghetti cupcakes or gingerbread cupcakes that I have made in the past, this idea came from the same book.

Giant Aquarium

At the very end of your exploration of the aquarium, you come upon the most ginormous tank I have ever seen in my life. I like this photo because it gives you a good idea how big the tank is relative to the size of people. Granted they are sitting, the people you see are not small children but teenagers and adults. I love how it is designed that you are able to sit at floor level and look up. The tank wall is massively thick as you can imagine the weight of the water must be enormous especially down this deep. Though it looks sparse at the moment except for the one large fish there is actually a large variety of aquatic life in here: many varieties and sizes of sharks, fish, stingrays, etc.

Tropical Fish Salad

A fish feeding frenzy on some lovely lettuce. (Nice alliteration, eh?)

Sea Snakes

So fun to watch! I can't remember for sure if they were called sea snakes but for the sake of this post that's what they'll be called. There was a current running through the water so all their heads are pointed in the direction of the current and not away from it for some reason. The snakes would also bob up and down out of their little holes sometimes completely disappearing before coming back up.

Curvy Couch

This is a very large and uniquely shaped couch in the aquarium that Kendall put to good use.

Penguin Popup

This is one of my favorite photos of Kendall because of his expression. At this penguin exhibit, the aquarium has a tunnel setup you can go through and then pop up inside this dome to get a closer look. The penguins must have adjusted to people popping up because they showed no reaction.

Bubble Porthole

This is looking into an aquarium from a porthole. The porthole is bubble shaped toward the inside of the aquarium. So, you get the feeling you can get inside the aquarium just a little bit and look around. Also, the porthole is down near the floor and large enough for you to sit in. I really think it would be a great place to study or read a book.

Starfish Underside

This is what underneath a starfish looks like. The starfish was suctioned up against the glass so it was really cool to see so clearly since you often only see the top.

Flashback to January 2006: Horseshoe Crab Trio

Ok, so I'm going to cheat for about a week. I have run out of recent pictures for the moment but have been sorting through old pictures to get ready to burn to DVD so I have a backup. While organizing my photos, I found a bunch of cool pictures from a visit Kendall and I made to the Georgia Aquarium back in January 2006. I plan to go through some of my favorites for the next several days. If you ever get a chance to visit the GA Aquarium, I highly recommend it!

This photo is looking down inside the touch tank at three horseshoe crabs that have conveniently arranged themselves from largest to smallest as well as darkest to lightest!

Flashback to January 2006: Tybee Island Lighthouse

This is looking up inside at the actual glass (mirrors?) that makeup a lighthouse and help it shine so brightly. My mom and I were scouting beach wedding locations on Tybee Island, GA when we decided to also pay a visit to this lighthouse.

Night Lights

This photo was just for fun. I decided to try making those crazy light shots you see occasionally. Yes, this was on purpose and actually taken at the same time we drove over a bump in the road so it worked out perfect. The highest and boldest red and green are actually traffic signals, the rest belong to vehicles.

Raleigh Sunset

A beautiful sunset in Raleigh that we saw on our way home after work last week.
